Free Food Hygiene Training for Islington Residents
Food Hygiene Level 1 & Level 2
We’re pleased to share a free training opportunity for Islington residents looking to develop their food and kitchen skills, delivered by Islington Adult Community Learning. This offer includes Food Hygiene Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications, alongside access to other food-related courses.
These courses are a great fit for staff, volunteers and community members involved in food projects across the Islington Food Partnership network and beyond, as well as anyone interested in building confidence in food preparation or taking their skills to the next level.
What does the training cover?
-
Food Hygiene Level 1
Ideal for those new to food handling, this course introduces the basics of food safety, cleanliness and good kitchen practice. It’s well suited to volunteers, community cooks and anyone supporting food activities in a community setting. -
Food Hygiene Level 2
Designed for those with more responsibility in food preparation, this course goes deeper into safe food handling, storage, temperature control, contamination prevention and legal responsibilities. It’s particularly useful for people supporting or leading community meals, food distribution, or shared kitchen spaces.
Both courses are practical, accessible and designed to support learners at different stages of their journey.
What to expect
Participants can expect a supportive learning environment, with clear guidance, practical examples and recognised certification on completion. The training helps build confidence as well as knowledge, and can be a stepping stone towards further learning or employment in food and catering.
Why this matters
For individuals, these courses can:
-
Improve confidence and skills in the kitchen
-
Support progression into volunteering, paid work or further training
-
Strengthen CVs with recognised food hygiene qualifications
For organisations and community projects, having trained staff and volunteers helps ensure safe, high-quality food provision, strengthens capacity, and supports the long-term sustainability of local food services.
Food Hygiene Level 1 and Level 2 are free for Islington residents, and other food and employability courses are also available through Islington Adult Community Learning.
